- Reference strains recognized as important in general research or industry
- Basic Requirements for Registered Resources
- Resources with sufficient and accurate information
- Purely isolated strains
- Resources that can be cultured on artificial media
- Resources capable of being preserved by freezing or lyophilization without significant alteration of key characteristics
