| 1 | Composition for ginsenoside bioconversion comprising Lactobacillus plantarum WiKim18 | Oct. 5 |
| Lactobacillus plantarum WiKim18 is a lactic acid bacteria that is present in kimchi that mainly enhances the bioconversion of ginsenoside——an immunomodulator. Ginsenoside is mainly present in ginseng, and consuming a ginseng product that contains Lactobacillus plantarum WiKim18 reduces the individual differences in the medicinal effects of ginseng that are caused by gut microbiota, thereby enhancing its effectiveness. This technology has been transferred to Company F--a company dedicated to the development of healing foods. The company plans to proceed with the commercialization of this technology by applying it to the red ginseng or probiotic products. | ||
| 2 | Lactobacillus sakei WiKim0118 isolated from kimchi for controlling harmful organisms | Oct. 12 |
| Lactobacillus sakei WiKim0118, when isolated from kimchi, demonstrated an excellent amino acid neurotransmitter (GABA) production ability. As a result of applying its culture medium to harmful organisms (root-knot nematodes, cyst nematodes, etc.), the intake palatability in nematodes was higher than other lactic acid bacteria that induce a similar amount of GABA production. It exhibited excellent effects in terms of nematode GABA receptor activity regulation, nematicidal action, spawning control, and larval death rate. This can be effectively used in the manufacture of nematicides. The technology has been transferred to Company M. | ||
| 3 | Six microorganisms that have effects on anti-cancer, and improvement of Parkinson's disease, and arthritis | Nov. 12 |
| The anti-cancer microorganism has shown excellent combative potential in the lung cancer and colon cancer mouse models, which presents the possibility of its utilization as a cancer treatment or a combination treatment in the future. The microorganism that mitigates the symptoms of Parkinson¡¯s disease has been found to be effective in improving motor ability and anxiety in the Parkinson¡¯s disease mouse model. The microorganism that has shown effects against arthritis can be used for various purposes, such as arthritis relief and bowel cleansing. In 2019, a technology transfer contract was signed exclusively in the pharmaceutical field, which delivered excellent results. In 2020, a contract was signed to expand the field of implementation to other fields including the food industry. The technology was transferred to Company L--a Korean biotech startup. | ||
| 4 | Two types of lactic acid bacteria isolated from kimchi that improve non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) | Nov. 12 |
| This is a technology related to functional lactic acid bacteria that are present within kimchi: Weissella hellenica WiKim0103 and Leuconostoc citreum WiKim0104. They have function as probiotics that are effective in improving NAFLD in humans and animals. Thus, they can be used for various purposes, such as the treatment of NAFLD and bowel cleansing. In 2019, a technology transfer contract was signed exclusively in the food field, which delivered excellent results were obtained. In 2020, a contract was signed to expand the field of implementation to other fields, including the pharmaceutical industry. The technology was transferred to Company L——a Korean biotech startup. | ||
| 5 | Composition for inhibiting Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. Carotovorum comprising Salicornia herbacea extracts as an active ingredient | Dec. 7 |
| The addition of Salicornia herbacea extracts was found to inhibit bacterial soft rot of kimchi cabbage, Pactobacterium carotovorum subsp. The technology was transferred to Company Y——a fertilizer manufacturer. | ||
