WiKim opened the 2nd Kakao Premium Gallery with new photos!

Kimchi is a staple dish among Koreans regardless of class or region. It has been passed down through generations and is constantly transformed into a variety of dishes in line with today′s food trends.

WiKim provides a gallery on cultural archetypes collected and discovered through the Kimchi Culture Archive to support the cultural succession and development as well as industrial utilization of kimchi. This year, the initiative culminated through a series of photos of unique and delicious kimchi posted on the Kakao Premium Gallery.

The topic of the first exhibition presented last February was “Kimchi Embodies Nature and Sincerity.” It consisted of photos that featured kimchi-making processes that included seasonal vegetables. This exhibit has garnered over 96,733 hits.

The exhibition that opened this June under the theme, “Familiar Novelty - the Past and Present of Kimchi” starts with kimchi as portrayed in ancient literature. Upon browsing further, viewers are also introduced to a variety of unusual kimchi dishes made by the winners of the annual Kimchi Master Chef Contest.

Despite the difference from today’s kimchi, the traditional food in ancient times boasts of its own beauty and taste through the unwavering devotion to its making process. These timeless kimchi dishes were replicated following the traditional methods, as cited in Korean literature.

Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by WiKim in the fall of 2019, the Kimchi Master Chef Contest provided amazing moments when this traditional Korean food, kimchi, was combined with various dishes from around the world―a feast for the senses.
